Brežice Library
Architecture
The Brežice Library moved to its present location in 1980. In the period 2002–2006 the building was expanded and modernised (including the interior) by the architect Nataša Filipčić, Arho Studio for Architecture and Design, Brežice.
The Brežice Library has been selected by the organisation NAPLE (National Authorities on Public Libraries in Europe) for presentation in the Library Buildings database which features cutting-edge contemporary library buildings in Europe.
Collections and displays
Brežice Library's collection comprises more than 100,000 items. The library has also introduced a self-service book borrowing machine.
On the ground floor a children's literature department is located next to the Mini Bologna, a permanent exhibition of illustrated youth books from 44 countries. On the upper floor there is a section for adults, a reference library, and the permanent display of the book collection of the Slovene language expert Jože Toporišič.
Events
A multi-purpose hall is named after Savica Zorko, the library's first manager. Many events (book readings, presentations, exhibitions, etc.) for children and adults take place here. The library has started offering free computer courses as early as 2010.
