Vita Mavrič began her career in 1987 with a music theatre performance at Ljubljana City Theatre (MGL) and subsequently presented a musical interpretation of poems by Slovene poets on Televizija Slovenija. Soon afterwards she dedicated her work to the chanson.

Vita Mavrič was artistic director of Café Teater for almost a decade. In recent years she has collaborated with Ljubljana Dance Theatre (PTL) on the children's performance Ferdinand the Bull and with Matjaž Pograjc, Mojmir Sepe and the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra in the multimedia stage spectacle Once Upon a Time in May. She received a Viktor Award and three Golden Cocks (for video, design and CD) for her album Sem kakršna sem and in 2000 she received the Ježek Award for her creative opus. In 2001 she presented her interpretation of Brecht and Kurt Weill songs at the Slovene Philharmonics Halls, accompanied by pianist Bojan Gorišek. In 2002 she received an award from the Ljubljana Urban Municipality and was made a UNICEF ambassador.
