Background
Until 2014 the core of the Stiropor collective headed Bi-ko-fe, a cult and now defunct bar that served as a meeting place for many artists and creative workers of the younger generation. Catering to a somewhat hip clientèle, the bar also had regular clubbing and concert evenings, staging an international mix of very varied musical acts. However, in the spring of 2014 it became obvious that due to the neighbours' complaints, the bar would not be able to set up events any more.
As a result, its managers announced the Stiropor Festival, which presented a very strong line-up that included a number of local artists (most of them also regular visitors of the bar) and a curious selection of contemporary dance music acts, from techno to grime and r'n'b (Dean Blunt, Jessy Lanza, Om Unit, etc). They've continued with the festival as an annual event, setting it up in various formats and with consistently strong line-ups.
Publishing and other activities
Stiropor also acts as a label. Its first release, a double vinyl LP that showcased a choice selection of the Slovene protagonists of the beats scene, accompanied the first edition of the festival. Besides compilations like this, they also started releasing mix-tapes on cassettes.
It should also be mentioned that, partly due to Bikofe being the node for many a visual artist and designer, the releases and various promotional materials of Stiropor usually boast quite imaginative designs.
