The production agency and film distributor Arsmedia was founded in 1995 by Franci Zajc, a television producer with substantial experience that he accumulated producing acclaimed Slovene TV series such as Decameron [Dekameron] and feature films such as Blossoms in Autumn [Cvetje v jeseni] in the late 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The agency produces and co-produces feature, short, and documentary films.

    Feature films

Arsmedia filmography encompasses a number of feature films, including the 1996 TV film Triptych of Agata Schwarzkobler [Triptih Agate Schwarzkobler], directed by Matjaž Klopčič, the 1995 Slovene and Austrian co-produced film Radio Doc, directed by Miran Zupanič and winner of the First Prize at the Festival of Slovenian Film, and the 1999 Dark Angels [Temni angeli usode], directed by Sašo Podgoršek.

In 2001 Arsmedia produced Poker by Vinci Vogue Anžlovar, Rascals! [Barabe] by Miran Zupanič, and Sweet Dreams [Sladke sanje] by Sašo Podgoršek. All of the films were recognised and awarded prizes at the Festival of Slovenian Film. Sweet Dreams also received prizes at film festivals in Motovun and Valencia in 2001 as well as in Setubal (the FIPRESCI award) and Braunschweig in 2002.

Other productions include the 2005 historical film Ljubljana the Beloved [Ljubljana je ljubljena], a co-production with Radio-Television Slovenia and Jadran Film, Zagreb, directed by Matjaž Klopčič, and the 2007 cinema and TV hit Rooster's Breakfast [Petelinji zajtrk], a film adaptation of Feri Lainšček's novel of the same name, directed by Marko Naberšnik.

In 2010, Arsmedia in association with Jadran Film from Zagreb and Radio-Television Slovenia produced the historical romance Piran Pirano by the up-and-coming film-maker and writer Goran Vojnović. The film won a prize at the South-East European Film Festival (SEE) in Paris.

    Short films

Arsmedia has also produced several short fiction films, including the 1997 The Ballad of the Butcherman [Pesem od Ludomorca], directed by Jane Kavčič, the 1999 Abyssinia by Karpo Godina, the 2000 Solitude for Two - Morning/Solitude for Two - Evening [Samota v dvoje], directed by Nataša Prosenc and recipient of prizes at the Brooklyn Festival in New York and at the Festival of Short Film and Video New York EXPO that same year, and the 2003 Heintje [Sirota s čudežnim glasom] by Miha Mazzini.

Between 2006 and 2007 a number of short films directed by young authors and produced by Arsmedia were successfully shown at home and abroad: the 2006 A Slice of Life [Rezina življenja], directed by Martin Turk, received the Award for Best Short Film at the 9th Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož and was subsequently screened at the Premiers Plans Festival in Angers, France, at the Huesca Film Festival in Spain in June 2007, and later in Valencia, where the 2006 short film My Son, a Sex Maniac [Moj sin, seksualni manijak] by Goran Vojnović was also shown. Arsmedia also produced the 2007 Edi Šelhaus: I Was There [Edi Šelhaus: Bil sem zraven] by Martin Gruden and the 2007 Made in Slovenia by Miran Zupanič.

    Documentaries

Arsmedia has also produced various short documentaries and documentary essays (including several directed by Igor Likar), portraits, and the 2002 feature-length documentary The Story of Mr P. F. [Zgodba gospoda P. F.] about the inventor Peter Florjančič, directed by Karpo Godina. For television it produced the 2003 The Messenger of Slovenian Shores [Glasnik slovenske brežine], a documentary about Slovene comic artist Miki Muster; the 2004 Kocbek, a documentary on the renowned Slovene poet; the 2007 Children from Petriček Hill [Otroci s Petrička]; and the 2010 At the End of Trieste Street [Na koncu Tržaške], produced in cooperation with the Italian RAI TV and co-funded by the Ministry of Culture.

Most of Arsmedia's productions are funded by the Slovenian Film Centre (previously Slovenian Film Fund) and Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV Slovenia), however, the documentary The Eyes of Bosnia, which won a prize at the Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož, was an independent production of Arsmedia.
