Trainstation Squat endorses an open-door policy and serves quite a few producers who for their various events and programmes, more or less all of them of a non-commercial nature. Some of the crews and collectives who use the Squat are Vibe department, NKLG, Spiritual Submarine, Forestdelic, Interparty, KD quilenium, The Mor(R)ons and the Kranj Student Society. The towns cultural centre Layer's House regularly cooperates with the Squat, as does the Rock bar Down Town. Also, the Squat is one of the main venues for the [[SubArt Festival].
In October 2015, the Squat has for indefinitely, yet also temporarily stopped its activities due to issues with various inspection organs.
Background
In the decade before Trainstation Squat was established, the subcultural activities in Kranj were based at the so-called Izbruh's Cultural Pool (Izbruhov kulturni bazen), which was another squatted place that used to function as an indoor swimming pool. Izbruh has been hosting a range of different programmes (concerts, theatre performances, video and film screenings) several times a week and played a crucial part in a few festivals as well. In 2011, the club ceased to exist (though it later turned into a more commercial venue).
No new alternative space has been provided for the Izbruh's vivid programmes so the interested parties first squatted another place at the bank of the Sava river (called Klub Subart) and a little bit later settled in its current location by the train station. Though the storehouse was squatted on their own accord, with time they have come to manage an ad hoc working agreement with the town authorities.
Programme
An intensive programme with over 100 events per year takes place at the Trainstation Squat, and also numerous creative enterprises like band rehearsals, music studio work and regular drawing, painting, screen printing, sewing sculpturing and graffiti endeavours at the graphic arts studio. You can join in these activities by way of workshops and also see the results at monthly exhibitions.
An important part of the programme are films, both documentaries as well as feature films, which are played at the film evenings called Kinofobia. An upgrade of this cycle is a movie festival and also a subprogramme in the scope of the [[SubArt Festival].
Music programme
The presented music is extremely varied and one can hear not only metal bands like Noctiferia, Knaegt (SW) and Omen (USA), rock and HC practitioners in the manner of Let 3 (HR), Vlasta Popić (HR), Repetitor (SR), Dandelion Children, [[Nina Bulatovix] and Demolition Group, but also the legendary psychedelic band Ozric Tentacles (UK), ska and reggae band The Moon Invaders and the techno DJ Ben Long (of Space DJz, UK) adn rambo Amadeus (BiH). And regular trance nights.
