NagiB Contemporary Dance Festival
Launched in 2005 by the Pekarna Magdalena Network, NagiB Experimental Movement Festival invites emerging talents from the field of contemporary dance and performance from Slovenia and abroad to present their work. Priority is given to projects which involve research and tackle the issue of the body in contemporary society. Projects taking place beyond the traditional theatre space are welcomed since the festival's aim is to transgress not only regional and national borders, but also physical and spiritual ones. The festival takes place at Pekarna Cultural Centre in Maribor, at the Small Stage of Slovene National Theatre (SNG) Maribor and at various public places round the city of Maribor, usually in September for the 3 days.
The NagiB 2006 programme incorporated the improvisation workshop 'Magpie Music and Dance Company' organised by Katie Duck and Mary Oliver and the Contact Composition Workshop. The programme presented Yasmine Hugonnet and En-Knap Dance Group, Katie Duck, Jasmina Križaj, Laurens Oliviero, Radharani Pernarčič, Nina Fajdiga, Nina Milin, Samo Šalamon (jazz) and Barbara Damjan. In 2007 the festival program included performances from Turkey, Belgium, the Netherlands, Croatia and Spain. The festival hosted the workshop relating to the dramaturgy of movement by Igor Dobričić (Sebia, Netherlands). Waiting room - an installation for a coster, performers, architects and a musician, conceived by the Kud C3 from Ljubljana, was set on the bridge over the Drava river. It closed with the NagiBeat closing party with DJ Stalker, VJ Anina and Dinosch.
