The Youth Centre for Cultural Activities Maribor (MKC) was established in 1993 by the Municipality of Maribor. It is a public institution, designed to stimulate, develop, and mediate the activities of young people in the field of arts.
Activities
MKC's activities include computer and new media art, literature, theatre and dance arts, visual arts, video, film and photography, music, non-profit management and production. Its most important and oldest projects are the No Border Jam Festival (now organised by and the Cultural Centre Maribor) and the International Festival of Computer Arts (IFCA). MKC also participates in the Slovene Book Days and co-organises the Festival Performa & Platforma, an international festival of contemporary dance and performance arts.
The selected programs and projects of the MCC Maribor were included in European Capital of Culture program and in the European Youth Capital 2013 program.
They run many youth programmes: Living Library Maribor, Bank of Ideas - Local Fund for Young People with Ideas, Maribor through Pink Glasses and the Youth Maribor Project.
MKC Maribor runs the Media Nox Gallery where public performances – exhibitions, projections, concerts, workshops, lectures and readings take place, and the new venue Kulturni Inkubator dedicated to presenting new media projects, comics, and cartoons.
