Etnika International World Music Festival

Etnika embarked on its mission of bringing fresh music from around the world to the city of Maribor in 2005. Since then, the festival has been presenting a continuously broad and inquisitive array of musical expression, featuring not only artists from the so-called world music circuit but also musicians who play jazz, rock and hip hop.

The festival is produced by the Etnika Institute and it annually takes place at various Maribor venues, chief among them the Gustaf Hall and the Club KGB Maribor. Some other venues used in the past are Narodni dom Maribor and the Satchmo Jazz Club.

Pranger Festival

The international Pranger Festival, a meeting of poets, critics, and poetry translators, has been organised every summer since 2004 in Rogaška Slatina and Šmarje pri Jelšah by the KUD Pranger Cultural Association.

Talum Art Collection

Since the beginning of the 1990s the Talum aluminium company in Kidričevo has been known as a significant patron of the contemporary fine arts in Slovenia, engaged in building up its own collection. With more than 800 art works of over 130 artists, the Talum Art Collection presently focuses on the art production of regional and national artists. The collection displays a post-modernistic character.

The Festival of Slovenian Jazz is an annual presentation of the current creative endeavours among the Slovenian jazz musicians of various musical orientations. Taking place since 2003, it is hosting big bands, contemporary jazz collectives, free jazz practitioners and all sorts of other creative musicians, many of them often playing with an international cast, thus giving the festival a somewhat international character.

The festival takes place in the Kompleks Youth Culture Centre in Ravne na Koroškem and partially also in the Cultural centre Ravne.

Federacija Institute

Established in 2009, it is used as a means to refresh the established formats of performance practices as well as to experiment with socially innovative artistic projects.

Biennial of Design (BIO)

The Biennial of Design, known also by its Slovene acronym BIO, explores and reflects contemporary developments in international design through a collaborative process; questioning and analysing current conditions in industrial production, public and private space, systems and networks. The Biennial operates under the aegis of the Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO) since the museum’s founding in 1972.

BIO, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2024, is organized by MAO in cooperation with the Centre for Creativity (CzK). The 28th edition of the Biennial of Design (BIO) is held between 21 November 2024 and 6 April 2025. Under the title Double Agent - Do You Speak Flower? the BIO28 is curated by Professor Alexandra Midal.

It encourages international cultural exchange in the fields of arts, culture and heritage. The portal and its content is owned and funded by the Ministry of Culture and the European Union Recovery and Resilience Plan. It was developed and edited by the team of the Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory in the period 2009–2020 and again in 2024.

Organised by Obalne galerije - Coastal Galleries and, as of recently, also the DESSA Architecture Centre, the international conference Piran Days of Architecture has been going on annually since 1983. Mostly taking place in in the medieval coastal town of Piran, the conference aims to assess current trends in architecture and present the most progressive and innovative ideas of architectural and spatial production. It consists of lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and a competitive programme of architectural solutions.
