Launched in 1996, Pomurje Summer Festival is one of the bigger summer festivals that take place in the Pomurje region. It combines various cultural, sociable and sporting events and has a "something for everyone" programming policy that is comprised of three main sections – music concerts featuring both local and international musicians; cultural spectacles and theatre plays; and the so-called ŠTRK's Sport Week (riding excursions, street basketball, farmer's athletic competitions and similar).

These are accompanied by events such as culinary competitions, workshops on traditional crafts, old-timer exhibitions and a fair with local produce.

The festival brings popular pop and rock musicians from the ex-Yugoslavia region – Prljavo Kazalište, Crvena jabuka, Plavi Orkestar, Severina, Gibonni and the many bands which are performing the klape music from Croatian Dalmatia. Of the Slovenian musicians, the list goes from numerous folk-pop ensembles (like the immensely popular Modrijani) to the punk legends Pankrti, featuring popular names from pop (Jan Plestenjak, Tanja Žagar) and also rock (Big Foot Mama). Tribute bands that perform music by the likes of AC/DC, Guns N'Roses and U2 are also regulars in the line-up.
