The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Ankara was opened in 1996 as an official representative body of the Slovene Government in Turkey. It promotes bilateral political, economic and cultural relations between Slovenia and Turkey. The embassy in Ankara is also responsible for Azerbaijan, Lebanon, and Iraq.

Cultural cooperation

The legal basis for cooperation in the field of culture is the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on Cooperation in the Fields of Education, Science and Culture signed in June 1995 in Ankara. The Programme of Cooperation in the Fields of Education, Culture and Science for the years 2004–2008 was signed in March 2004.

In February 2011 the Embassy organised the first Week of Slovene Culture in Ankara, in cooperation with the National Library of Turkey, the Miran Jarc Library, Novo mesto, some other libraries in Slovenia, and the Slovenian Book Agency. The 60 Slovenian books exhibited in the exhibition were donated to the Turkish National Library. The first Istanbul International Advertising Festival, initiated by the Slovene Golden Drum Advertising Festival of New Europe, was successfully launched in March 2010.
