The character of the publication is both international and interdisciplinary, covering an exciting range of themes from the fields of ethnology, philology, history, archaeology, religious studies, history of literature, and philosophy.
The published articles are available in the archive section of their website. Contributions are in English or feature a summary in English.

In 2004 the journal launched the book series Studia Mythologica Slavica – Supplementa, which comprises three titles to date: Mordovian Mythology (Devyatkina), Pioneers of Jewish Ethnography and Folklore Studies in Eastern Europe (Bar-Itzhak), and Mirila/A Cultural Phenomenon (Pleterski, et al.).
