In 1967 the Music Schools of Koper, Piran and Izola became part of the Centre for Music Education, Koper. The oldest music school in the Slovene coast region was founded in [[established::1948]] in Portorož. Since 1951 it has been based in Koper and in 1955 it was allocated premises at the Gravisi-Barbabianca Palace, which was totally renovated in 1984. In 1999 the School offered music education for grammar schools, in 2003 when art grammar schools were introduced, the co-operation resulted in a combined musical education for schools on the secondary level. Around 23 instructors from this School are involved in music programme education within the secondary school programme of the [[Koper Grammar School - Ginnasio Capodistria]]. The students of the School particpate in the regional and national musical competitions ([[Slovene Young Musicians Competition]]).
