Background
Archives Section was formed in September 1995 virtually anew. Most film copies namely remained in the former central Cinematheque of Yugoslavia in Belgrade, Serbia. The collection was initially represented by 354 titles and 813 film copies, which were stored in appalling conditions: the water was leaking into the storage place. In the years since its foundation, the archives section of the Slovenian Cinematheque acquired in cooperation with the Slovenian film archives section of the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia and Slovenian Film Fund air-conditioned rooms in Gotenica, where the necessary work is being done to maintain the world's film heritage.
The archives also help in the maintenance and distribution of film copies of the Film Fund of the Republic of Slovenia.
