Azil Bookstore was established in October 2003 by the Scientific Research Centre (ZRC SAZU), Slovene Academy of Science and Arts, next door to the centre's premises near Ljubljana's National and University Library (NUK). They offer a discount on books published by ZRC Publishing for members of their book club. Because of its small size, the bookstore also allows customers to place orders on books published by Azil's international associates (see under External links section for a complete list) that are not currently in stock.
Azil Bookstore organises several book presentations and innovative reading and cultural promotion events like the "Library under the Trees" which takes place in Ljubljana's Tivoli Park every summer from Friday to Sunday, "Books in Motion", "Azil Open Term", and the children's programme "Frockarije" led by Maja Rijavec of KUD Smetumet. In summer 2008 the Azil Bookstore offered a special treat: comics.
