Operating within the framework of the University of Maribor's Centre for Interdisciplinary Research and Studies, the Institute for Music Information Science functions to provide information about, categorise, promote and support Slovene music in all of its forms, types and genres.
Online database
The institute has developed its own database which aims to cover the Slovene music production and reproduction scene focusing on folk music and serious music in Slovenia, the music of European nations and national minorities, as well as popular music.
The online database of Slovene folk music covers traditional folk music, folklore groups and arranged music, while the database of Slovene classical music presents composers as well as players or singers. The database was compiled by musicologists Franc Križnar and Jasna Vidakovič who received the Štrekelj Award in 2007.
