A presentation of the Kino Otok - Isola Cinema Festival at the Festival Market at the 9th Jewish Film Festival – Festival of Tolerance
The Kino Otok - Isola Cinema festival was launched in 2004 by OTOK Cultural Institute in the coastal town of Izola-Isola in Slovenia. The festival's principal venues are the Kino Odeon Izola and Izola Cultural Centre.
Programme
The festival introduces the cinema of Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe cinema to audiences of the wider region. Its aim is to present an extremely vital, although in regular cinema distribution largely neglected segment of contemporary film production. Priority is given to the quality of film presentation and to direct contact between the public and the film makers who are usually also guests of the festival.
Films in the 'Harvest' competition section are screened at an open-air cinema; in picturesque Manzioli Square. The Kino Otok Award - an audience award - assures the film's theatrical distribution in Slovenia. Other components of the festival include 'Masters' (the latest productions by acclaimed directors), 'Friends' (films freely selected by members of the international programme board), and 'Video on the Beach' (a selection of alternative video and digital filmmaking collected via an open call).
