The Association holds a biennial professional conference on 8th September, the International Literacy Day, and publishes the conference proceedings. Past conferences and round table discussions focused on topics like The Role of Visual Elements in Communication, Development of Reading and Literacy in Schools, Developing Reading Competence.
The Association has three subsidiary associations: in the Dolenjska, Primorska, and Celje regions. It is affiliated with the US-based International Reading Association (IRA), its International Development in Europe Committee (IDEC), and the Federation of European Literacy Associations (FELA).
