The Association of Slovene Publishers was founded in 1993. It aims to promote the creative publishing industry and the professionalism of book selling in Slovenia. Its members are individuals, not companies (cf the [[Association of Book Publishers]]), who have to be approved by the Supervisory Board of the Association upon joining. The Association endeavours to influence the publishing industry via international networking and to enhance professionalism through exchange of education and experience. With the aid of the Ministry of Culture the Association has twice organised the Knjiga na Slovenskem ('Books in Slovenia') congress in Portorož. The most recent congress hosted distinguished guests from Slovenia and abroad.
