Launched in 2002 by KIBLA Multimedia Centre in collaboration with the Linux Users Group of Slovenia Association (LUGOS, established in 1997), the international open code KIBLIX Linux IT Festival was developed out of the so-called Linux Install Fest (LIFe), established in 1999. KIBLA also collaborates on the KIBLIX programme with Ljudmila - Ljubljana Digital Media Lab and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor.

KIBLA has employed various open code solutions since its very beginnings in 1996; open code is an outlet for research and knowledge exchange in computing and mobile/Internet technology, empowering individuals by promoting the use of free software. The 5th festival of 2006 focused on recent computer and open code themes - telecommunications (VoIP - Voice over IP), xdsl technologies, openoffice, cripting and the model of Linux usage in small business.
