Since 2007, Plesna izba - Maribor Dance Room annually organises the Contemporary dance Platform [Platforma sodobnega plesa]. The festival cropped up from the Young Dancers' Festival that grew out of the need for continual possibilities for presentation of younger Slovene dance makers and was closely linked to the education programmes of Plesna izba Maribor. In 2010 the festival expanded its programme to include professional contemporary dance production, which has enabled presentation of national and international makers in the field of contemporary dance art. The festival was warmly welcomed and appreciated by Slovene critics. 2014 and 2015 editions of the festival have been organised in collaboration with Performa Festival, run by MKC Maribor Youth Culture Centre.

Platform as a space for artists

Contemporary Dance Platform is engaged in finding new forms of dialogue and different approaches to dance in Slovenia and internationally. It translates local insights to the wider state of affairs in Slovenia, aims to find what connects the national dance scene, and tries to reflect on the obstacles that stand in the way of the development of contemporary dance.
