Background
Its establishment as a non-profit NGO for culture, art and development in 2000 was the result of a successfully-implemented TEMPUS PHARE Cross-Border Co-operation project to create an intra-regional cultural artistic centre on the border between Slovenia and Hungary border.
With spring 2007, the Art Centre has been closed due to a local government decision. Several protests have been lodged, and in the meanwhile the Art Središče Institute and its crew were operating the Atelje Azil Asylum Studio at Metelkova mesto Autonomous Cultural Centre in collaboration with the KUD Mreža Arts and Culture Association. After several public campaigns and with the involvement of the Ministry of Culture (which then became the owner of the premises), the crew managed to move back in April 2008.
Programme
In the past, Art Center hosted events like Metamorphosis'04 - International student sculpting festival, a couple of ten days workshops on video/documentary skills, held by the Slovene director Bogdan Mrovlje, an Open Code Workshop, and many other international artistic meetings, workshops and exhibitions. Some of the artists-in-residence were Hellen Terry (UK), the Swiss actor Dominique Jann, Alexandra Filiatreaux (FR), Evelin Stermitz (AT) and Mariëtte van Duin (NL).
A big part of the Art Center Prosenjakovci programme is their focus on ecology, on ecological farming, and other similar topics.
