The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Skopje is the official representative body of the Slovene Government in the Republic of North Macedonia. The embassy maintains and strengthens the relations and contacts with North Macedonian state institutions and their representatives and promotes cooperation and bilateral political, economic and cultural relations between Slovenia and North Macedonia. It also provides consular assistance, together with the Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia in Bitola.

Cultural cooperation

The legal basis for cooperation in the field of culture is the Agreement on Cooperation in Culture, Education and Science between the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Macedonia signed in July 1993 in Ljubljana.

The Programme of Cooperation in the Field of Culture for the Years 2010–2013 was signed in Skopje by the two ministers of culture in March 2010. On that occasion Majda Širca opened the exhibitions Jože Plečnik (1872-1957). Architect in Ljubljana, Prague and Vienna and Modern Architecture in Slovenia 1999–2010. Both exhibitions were featured as a part of the 15th Architectural Biennial of Macedonia BIMAS 2010.

The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Skopje participates in the organisation of a range of cultural events. In 2010 several literary evenings (Mitja Čander and Lucija Stupica, Primož Repar, Josip Osti), choral concerts and folklore events, as well as exhibitions (NAME Readymade produced by Aksioma Institute) took place in Macedonia. Slovene artists presented themselves at several festivals: Anja Medved's video installation was shown at the Skopsko leto and two young Slovene film makers were awarded at the Roma film festival Zlato kolo Skopje and at the Asterfest film festival. Performances by the Mladinsko Theatre, Glej Theatre, and the Slovene National Theatre Drama Ljubljana were invited to the eminent MOT International Theatre Festival, while the Skupifestival 2010 hosted the Ma & Al by Mini Theatre.
