Founded in 1961, the Simon Robič Society for Cave Research opened Železna jama ('Iron Cave') to the public in 1963 and in the following years set up a permanent exhibition of caving objects in the Caver's Club. The memorial room, devoted to 19th-century biologist and speleologist Simon Robič, contains a caving collection, a geological collection, archaeological finds from the nearby Babja jama cave, the Franz Hohenwarth Collection of stalagmites and stalactites and a collection of fossils and rocks. Since 1992 it has also held a collection from the straw hat industry that characterised the Domžale region in the early 20th century, and parts of a B-24 bomber that crashed in the vicinity during the Second World War.
