Besides numerous exhibitions of work by eminent artists (Hamilton, Murtić, German Impressionists and Expressionists) as well as younger avant-garde artists (eg Maria Klonaria and Kateriene Thomadaki), complex themed group exhibitions (The Nude in Slovene Arts, Media in the Painting and The Politics of Painting) have been presented here.
Cankarjev dom Gallery is often one of the key exhibition spaces where large exhibition projects take place in Ljubljana, eg 100 Years of Photography, and the Manifesta 3 European Biennial of Contemporary Art held in Ljubljana. It is also a regular venue for the Biennial of Slovene Book Illustration.
