A jury of experts presents three awards for auctorial photograph and one for reportage, and selects the entrants’ finest works for exhibition. The call for submissions to the Competition is announced in November and is open to Slovene photographers of different generations, to amateur as well as professional photographers dealing with various contents, formats and techniques. Winning photographs and a selection of other entries are exhibited at the Foyer 1 of the Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre traditionally in February-March.
The interest for the 16th edition of the Emzin Magazine Photography Competition in 2010 was beating all predecessor: 540 portfolios (which amounted to 3164 photos) arrived on the call for submissions, what is almost 30 percent more as in 2005. Awarded opuses of the actual edition: the first prize went to Maja Alič, who participated on the Competition for the first time and enraptured with the opus of self-portraits, the second prize received Jaka Babnik for the opus We are dogs, the third went to Branko Blaž Lesjak, still student of the photography in Belgrade. For the best reportage in 2010 Manja Zore was bestowed for the series Rheumatism [Revma]. Beside winners, the exhibition of the Emzin Magazine Photography Competition featured 41 photographers.
From 1993 onward, the first prize has been received Marko Radovan, Tomaž Gregorič, Borut Peterlin, Jure Breceljnik, Aleksandra Vajd, Tomo Brejc, Tomaž Lunder, Sebastijan Kurmanšek, Mojca Janželj Tomažič, Aleš Gregorič, Jan Rapoša, Tanja Verlak, Vanja Bućan, Samo Rovan, and Maja Alič.
