Biennial of Textile Art BIEN

BIEN is an art exhibition focusing on textile art and other related fields. It promotes interdisciplinary collaborations, organises residencies, and presents works by international and domestic artists, putting special emphasis on outstanding works by Slovenian and international students. BIEN is an initiative of Carnica Institute from Kranj. The first editions were organised in Kranj, but in 2023 the biennial already included four Slovenian cities (Kranj, Škofja Loka, Jesenice and Nova Gorica).

FKK - Festival of Culture Kostanjevica

The Festival of Culture Kostanjevica (FKK) is an annual series of cultural events that aims to be ingrained in the fabric and spirit of its local community and the wider region. It aspires to establish itself as a cherished tradition and a long-lasting event. Rooted in the rich legacy of cultural festivals like Dolenjska Kultura Festival, Forma Viva, Goga Days, and Noster Nostri Festival, FKK carries forward the tradition of esteemed cultural gatherings. With the disappearance of these and other cultural festivals from the region in recent years, FKK stepped in to fill the void in 2018, offering the people of Kostanjevica and beyond a cultural happening featuring rich and diverse program including musical concerts, theater performances, exhibitions and workshops. Anchored in its local heritage, FKK aims to create cherished memories and cultivate a vibrant cultural legacy for generations to come.

Slovenia – Guest of Honour Country at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023

In October 2023, Slovenia is the Guest of Honour of the Frankfurt Book Fair, the world's largest trade fair for books, under the slogan "Honeycomb of Words". Slovenia's exposure at the Frankfurt Book Fair is an opportunity to strengthen the export potential of national book creativity in the field of literature and illustration, meanwhile the effects can be seen in both the cultural and tourism sector.

Slovenian Book Agency is in charge of the project organisation. It has already intensified the translation of Slovenian books, mostly to German. The program has been curated by Miha Kovač and Matthias Göritz.

Overview

Fields of Experimental Music in Slovenia

Luka T. Zagoričnik

Let's take a ride on the term experimental music, which currently mainly defines certain more fringe musical practices, across the expanses of various musical plains, styles and genres. We can apply this (overly) broad term to designate the varied creative simmering in certain segments of the present-day Slovenian music scene. A scene that spans the realms of electro-acoustic music, musique concrète, experimental music in the context of modern classical music, free improvisation, experimental electronic music and sound art as well as their associated present-day trends. This scene is diverse and exceptionally agile. It has developed a strong infrastructure for itself (festivals, concert series, labels, international networks) and exists in the space between self-organising and DIY models and institutional environments.
