Background
Mat'Kurja portal was developed at the Jožef Stefan Institute and launched on 23 November 1993. Its creators to be mentioned are Boris Čibej, Mišo Alkalaj, Vuk Ćosić and Tomaž Lavrič as well as developers Marko Martinc, Mateja Celcer, Joh Dokler, Žiga Kranjec, Ivan Ivanjko in Vitja Matjašič. The initial name SloWWWenia was changed to Mat'kurja in March 1997.
From 1994 to 1997 the portal's development was supported by public funds (Government Communication Office). Today Mat'Kurja is a public domain database, the project leader being UPC Telemach, Slovenia's leading broadband operator.
Contents
Matkurja.com comprises catalogues of information, including Slovenia's history, geography, government, economy, culture, language, food and drink, with a searchable directory of Slovenian web.
