Opened in 2000 by Mladinska knjiga Publishing House in Blue House (Modra hiša) next door to its flagship bookstore in Ljubljana, the Sunflower Gallery is specialised on the presentation of children book illustrations. It presents authors working with and for the Mladinska knjiga Publishing House and those who are publishing their work in the children magazine Cicido and Ciciban.


The Sunflower Gallery received its name from the children book collection Sunflower (Sončnica) which the Mladinska knjiga Publishing House publishes for years. It operates under the logo of the happy sun created by the popular Slovene illustrator of children books Lilijana Praprotnik Zupančič alias Lila Prap.

Programme

The gallery regularly prepares mostly solo exhibitions in the interval of a month. As a rule it features illustrations of recent dates and in this way promotes the new published books to its public. Recently the Gallery presented illustrations of Tomislav Torjanc from the picture book Antonton, the term before were reserved for Maša Kozjek and her picture book Mišek Miško and Belamiška written by Feri Lainšček, published in September 2009. Recently it featured also authors as Marjan Manček (picture book Ringaraja by Peter Svetina) and Zvonko Čoh who presented his new illustration of the book Kako sta se gospod in gospa pomirila by Miklavž Komelj, art historian and poet.

Since the establishing the Gallery gave the podium for the presentation of the newest production almost to all prominent and promising Slovene illustrators as Jelka Reichman, Božo Kos, Suzi Bricelj, Lila Prap and many many others.

Occasionally the Gallery featured as well results of different competitions prepared by magazines of the House. In November 2009 were presented photographies of the photo competition Motion and Sport in the Nature (Fotonatečaj Gibanje in šport v naravi) published in the magazine Moj Planet.
