Šiška Library, a regional unit of the Ljubljana City Library, covers the western suburbs of Ljubljana together with its three branches: Šentvid, Gameljne and Vodice Library. The beginnings of the library reach back to 1878, when an institution for cultural activities was established in Šiška. The library covers 1,900 square metres, and offers study rooms with 137 seats, computers with internet access and more than 300,000 units of book and other material.
An important part of library's activities are various events for children, such as story telling hours (also in English) and workshops. Adults can partake in literary evenings, exhibitions, lectures, book and author presentations and other cultural events. In cooperation with the Centre for Lifelong Learning the visitors can participate in programs for self-learning and learning under the guidance of mentors in the fields of computers, foreign languages, etc.
