The Social Public Activities Department of Kranj Urban Municipality acts as a governance and expert body for the field of education, culture, sports, social security and medical care. It oversees funding and programming, gives concessions for health care, makes plans and supervises their implementation, co-ordinates the protection of the natural and cultural heritage in the region and overseas the establishment and organisation of public institutions.
The local branches of the Union of Cultural Societies of Slovenia (ZKDS) and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia (JSKD) facilitate the activities of around 52 cultural associations comprising about 1,700 members and act as mediators in respect of state and municipal funding.
Kranj is a member of the Slovene Association of Historic Towns. Gorenjska’s regional television and radio station is also located in Kranj.
