Rihard Jakopič Award
Candidates may be nominated by a cultural institution, by a fine arts association, by the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU), by the Ministry of Culture, or by an individual.
The winner is selected by a special Board consisting each year out of new members from four institutions (two from each): Museum of Modern Art, Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Union of Slovene Fine Arts Associations (ZDSLU), and the Associations of Slovene Art Critics.
The artist is prized by remuneration and the solo exhibition in one of esteemed galleries in Ljubljana.
Bestowed artists
The Rihard Jakopič Award was in recent years bestowed to Marjetica Potrč (2003) known internationally on her interdisciplinary practice includes on-site projects, research, architectural case studies, and series of drawings; Irwin (2004; Bogoslav Kalaš (2006); pioneer of slovene video art Srečo Dragan (2007); Marko Pogačnik (2008) internationally known artist engaged in geomantic and Earth healing work by the method of using lithopunctures.
In 2009 Tadej Pogačar was selected out of 9 candidates for the project CODE: RED" (Koda: rdeče), the reasearch of the paralel nonformal economies being presented in last years within numerous international art manifestations like Venice Biennial, Istanbul Biennial, Prague Biennial, in New York, San Francisco, Moscow, London, Madrid, Berlin, Zagreb and in Ljubljana.
