The Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor was established in September 2006 when the former Academy of Education (Pedagoška akademija) was transformed into three faculties: the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Faculty of Education. The Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor is a young faculty although the history of its study programmes is much longer. The Faculty has 12 Departments with twelve undergraduate study programmes in humanities and seven doctoral study programmes.
