Ljubljana Musical Youth
Concert activities
Along with 15 other organisations, Ljubljana Musical Youth is a member of Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI), Slovenia and a principal driving force of development in the world of young musicians seeking to establish themselves.
One of the many concert cycles that the Ljubljana Musical Youth organises each year is entitled Autumn serenades. It was at first prepared by violinist Tomaž Lorenz and is currently lead by clarinet player Boris Rener. The concert cycle features performances of classical music works by young musicians, students of the Ljubljana Music and Ballet Conservatory and theAcademy of Music. Many concerts featuring performances of young instrumentalists and vocalists are held each year at locations in Ljubljana, such as the Ljubljana Town Hall,Grand hotel Union and the City Museum of Ljubljana.
The organisation also participates with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra in organising concerts and musical educational events. These present orchestral pieces of classical music as well as overtures and arias from operas, by composers such as W. A. Mozart, J. Strauss II and G. Rossini, to young audiences.
Veter mixed choir
In 1989 the organisation established the 'Veter' Mixed Youth Choir whose members are mostly secondary school students. The choir, conducted by Tereza Podlogar organises a yearly concert in Ljubljana and participates in competitions in Slovenia and abroad.
Publishing
Ljubljana Musical Youth has published a collection of notations of songs for school choirs which feature Czech, Polish and Slovak folk songs, as well as the audio CDs Mikrokozmos ('Veter' choir songs) and Autumn Serenades - 30 years of Glasbena mladina ljubljanska, which features a selection of performances by professional Slovene musicians.
