Prostor Gallery
Beginnings
The space at Soteska 8 had been used for artistic events (open studios, workshops) even before the formal establishment of the gallery that was opened in May 2009 with the exhibition Animal Kingdom by Vladimir Leben. The name TukadMunga - a river that runs upstream is in relation to the alternative policy of the gallery which is informally also known as Soteska, and since January 2012 named Prostor (“Space”).
Workshops and courses
TukadMunga organises or co-organises various workshops, such as Light and Textile, Illustrations for Ibotity picture book and Batik workshop led by Katja Colja. Art courses TukadMunga - Iskra take place in or in front of the the gallery and are led by Iskra Beličanska and assistant Matjaž Stražar. The courses finish with an exhibition and are supported by Employment Service of Slovenia and European Social Fund and are free for unemployed.
Prostor
Since 2012 the exhibition space at Soteska 8 is called Prostor and it is run by the Festival of Love and Art (FLU) and Studio 8. The gallery was renovated with the profit of an art market in December 2011 that was organized by Festival of Love and Art selling mostly the artworks created during FLU's 18 colonies. Prostor is an exhibition space that is not narrowly specialised for presenting artworks in certain medium or with specific theme so it welcomes everyone, including less established artists. The gallery is led by Dime Temkov who aims to create a friendly environment with coffee and wireless internet for visitors to hang out among the artworks. Beside exhibitions Prostor also hosts other events such as poetry readings, books presentations etc. Director of Studio 8 Damjana Lavrič is leading various art workshops.
