Mreža multimedijskih centrov Slovenije (M3C)

M3C Multimedia Centres Network of Slovenia gathers existing and emerging intermedia initiatives in all Slovene regions and encourages international co-operation. Its members are mostly multimedia centres that enable free access and encourage creative use of new technology and function as venues, events & workshop (co)producers and information nexuses.

The M3C Network was established in 2004 when nine Slovenian multimedia centres obtained a 3-years funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) by applying through the Ministry of Culture and developed infrastructural environment in relation to information technology and digital culture.

Background

M3C Network is rooted in a non-formal network, originally called the Cultural Information Backbone, which was formed in the second half of the 1990s. The project's aim was to connect organisations working with digital and information technologies and artistic production. Following funding from the Ministry of Culture and the former Ministry of Information Society, as well as from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in 2004, the infrastructure of the network was extended to cover all Slovene regions.

Members

Currently there are 16 members of the network: Ljudmila - Ljubljana Digital Media Lab and Cyberpipe in Ljubljana, KIBLA Multimedia Centre in Maribor, PINA Primorje Information Atelier in Koper-Capodistria on the Coast, Mostovna Cultural Centre and Mink Multimedia Centre, Tolmin in the Goriška Region (Western Slovenia), Multimedia Centre of Dolenjska (MCD) within the framework of Lokalpatriot in Novo mesto, South-Eastern Region, Posavje Multimedia Centre in Krško, KRIK Pomurje Multimedia Centre in Murska Sobota, Središče Art Centre and Prlekija Regional Multimedia Centre in Pomurje Region, Kunigunda Regional Multimedia Centre (KRMC), Velenje in Savinjska Region, Koroška Multimedia Centre in Slovenj Gradec, Carinthia Region, Pulsar Multimedia Centre in Škofja Loka, Gorenjska (Upper Carniola) Region, and Mat Kultra Multi Media Centre in Zagorje ob Savi.

Activities

Some of the members have developed regional portals based on open standards. The database covering daily cultural events around Slovenia is fed to Kulturnik.si, an aggregator based on semantic web tools and developed by Ljudmila - Ljubljana Digital Media Lab.
