Organised by the Art Centre - Institute of Youth Culture, Kranj since 2003, the Carniola Festival, Summer in Kranj is an international summer festival of music, theatre and dance.
As part of the wider Carniola Festival, the Kiselfest Festival offers a programme for children. In the past the local Kranj Jazz Festival presented domestic conventional jazz groups and some traditionally oriented international artists, later on it developed into Jazz Kamp Kranj.
Programme
Carniola Festival presents Slovene and international performers of jazz, classical music, opera, street theatre, classical theatre, contemporary dance, and folk dance.
Past performances include Laibach (Slovenia), Terrafolk (Slovenia), The Platters (USA), Huerque Mapu (Argentina), Afrikali (Tanzania), Mariachi & Ballet Folclorico Policromia Mexicana (Mexico), Conjunto Artistico Maraguan (Cuba), Vermicelli Orchestra (Russia), Rimpparemmi (Finland), Picikato Brass Band (Macedonia), Etno Histria (Croatia).
Venues
In the first decade many events were performed in the open air or, in cases of rain, in the Prešeren Theatre Kranj or at Khislstein Castle, later on the new venues emerged, e.g. Layer House, Bazen Coffeebar, KluBar, Kavka Bar, Pungert Cafe Gallery, and SubArt (Trainstation Squat).
