ACH Art Collection of the Autocommerce d.d. (Slovenian holding company dealing in investment management) is one of the largest company-owned collections of its kind in Slovenia. It comprises more than 400 artworks of more than 40 artists and offers an outstanding survey of Slovene artistic works from the middle of the 18th to the middle of the 20th century, ranging from Baroque religious motives to portraits, landscapes and still-lifes to various genre paintings. The oldest painting is by Kremser Schmidt and dates from 18th century. It is a result of the systematic acquisitions of works of art over a period of 50 years, which started Mr. Naglič. Presentation

The most valuable paintings adorn the walls of the company's business premises, while in 2003 the ACH Gallery was opened at Baragova ulica 5 in Ljubljana. The first exhibition organised there covered the works of the outstanding impressionist painter Matej Sternen, whose his 23 artistic works represent the largest group within the ACH Art Collection. In October 2004, on the occasion of the visit of the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Fine Arts (ICFA), an exhibition of landscapes was launched, entitled V znamenju štimunge. Since that time an exhibition entitled Obraz - okno duše ('Face - Window of the Soul') has been organised, featuring a selection of portraits and studies from the ACH Art Collection.

Occasionally is the collection also on public display. In 2002, as part of the programme of activities celebrating the Autocommerce's 50th anniversary, the entire collection was for the first time put on public display in co-operation with the National Gallery of Slovenia. The exhibition, entitled Duh v času (The Spirit in Time), was designed by Dr Andrej Smrekar and presented around 100 works, including paintings by Fortunat Bergant, Sternen, Jakopič, Grohar, Jama, Gaspari, Kregar, Mušič and Stupica. 4337 visitors saw this exhibition. On this occassion the catalogue in edition of 1000 was published.

Visible recent activities

Among other activities the company published in winter 2009 a publication of painter and pedagogue Anton Ažbe (1862 - 1905). This bow to Slovene artist, who essentially marked the art scene in Munich (Germany) and was also a teacher of many prominent artist as Alexej von Jawlensky or Wassily Kandinsky, marked the 140th anniversary of Ažbe's birth and 100th anniversary of his death. It was prepared in the cooperation between the company and the National Gallery of Slovenia. Publication was edited by Vanja Pohar in dr. Andrej Smrekar and was accompanied by the symposia Munich and Slovene painting between 1800 and 1918.
