Historical background
The Institute is housed in the Knafelj House in Vienna, which is known for being the residence of students from Slovenia and Carniola since 1676. Luka Knafelj as supporter of funding of the future Slovene intelligentsia enabled many students to study at the University of Vienna. Among others France Prešeren, Ivan Tavčar and Oton Zupančič received Knafelj grants in the past.
