Katice
Glinškova ploščad 1, SI-1000 Ljubljana

Background

Katice sing the traditional songs of all the Slovene regions in a highly original manner; they travel from a melancholic song of the Panonic plain to the extraordinary harmonies of the Rezija region, take a stroll through diverse seasons and ages of life, from joy at birth past a carefree childhood, adolescent puns and marriage, all the way towards death. Their rich vocal repertoire is seasoned by the sounds of a whistle and an earthenware pot-bass. They get accompanied also by a traditional musician and they also dance to their songs.

Performances

In 1997 they performed at the Druga Godba Festival, at the Trnfest Festival, and at the Okarina Folk Music Festival, Bled. In 1998 they appeared at the EBU Folk Contemporary Festival in Portorož, in 1999 at Summer Festival Ljubljana and in 2001 at Lent Festival.

International concerts and festivals

Their first independent performance was at the international Traditional Singers and Musicians of the Alpine Countries event in Innsbruck, 1992. In 2002 Katice performed at international Folk Singing Festival (Malta), Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod (Wales), Vis Musicae (Italy) and in 2003 on Celebration of Europe Day (Athens). They have also performed in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Poland, Ireland, Great Britain and and Croatia. Their first CD Katice was nominated twice for the Slovene award Zlati petelin; numerous other recordings have followed.
