In 1967 the Music Schools of Koper, Piran and Izola became part of the Centre for Music Education, Koper. The oldest music school in the Slovene coast region was founded in 1948 in Portorož. Since 1951 it has been based in Koper and in 1955 it was allocated premises at the Gravisi-Barbabianca Palace, which was totally renovated in 1984. In 2003 the Centre was renamed into Koper Music School including three coastal music schools: in Izola, Koper and Piran with its headquaters located in Koper.

In 1999 the School offered music education for grammar schools, in 2003 when art grammar schools were introduced, the co-operation resulted in a combined musical education for schools on the secondary level. Around 23 instructors from this School are involved in music programme education within the secondary school programme of the Koper Grammar School - Ginnasio Capodistria. The students of the School particpate in the regional and national musical competitions (Slovene Young Musicians Competition).
