Established in 1975, the Slovene Ethnological Society is a national association which brings together over 300 ethnologists from all over Slovenia, including professionals, students and amateur enthusiasts. It issues the quarterly Slovene Ethnological Society Bulletin which keeps its members informed on the latest developments, programmes, projects and books in the field of ethnology, organises public lectures, study visits and occasional museology, conservation and restoration workshops, and bestows the annual Murko Award. In the recent years it has strengthened its international activities: in 2007 it established the Days of Ethnographic Film international festival, and in 2009 it coorganised the Living with Cultural Heritage international conference (with the Slovenia National Commission for UNESCO).
Since 1980 the Society publishes also monographic ethnological studies and symposia proceedings in the SES Bulletin's Library book series.
