History
The new Academy of Education provided two-year (associated degree) programmes for future primary school teachers, special educators and librarians. In 1972 the Academy of Education became a member of the University of Ljubljana. After more than 20 years of operation, the Academy gradually expanded its programmes of study so that in the mid 1980s some areas were transferred to the Faculty of Arts (languages, history, geography, librarianship) and the Academy of Music (music education), while those in the sciences have since been taught in conjunction with the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Biotechnology.
In 1991 the Academy of Education was renamed the Faculty of Education. From its inception until that date, the Academy’s two-year study programmes had educated 11,102 graduates. Today the Faculty seeks to overcome the traditional insularity of teacher training institutions, developing international collaborations in teacher education and training teachers for an augmented role that is in no way limited to the transfer of knowledge to students in a set subject. The Faculty has its own art gallery and library.
Internation cooperation
The Faculty has signed several agreements with the regional and other European universities: University of Zagreb (Croatia), Universität Tübingen (Germany), Pädagogische Akademie des Bundes in Kärnten (Austria), Umeå Universitet (Sweden), Moskovski gosudarstvenji univerzitet imeni M. V. Lomonosova (Russia), University of London - Institute of Education (Great Britain), Oulun Yliopisto (Finland), Univerzita Komenskeho (Slovakia), Fachhochschule Erfurt (Germany), Univerzitet Sv. "Kiril i Metodij" Skopje (Macedonia) in Pedagoška akademija Univerziteta u Sarajevu (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Most of the international student and staff exchange are
Poleg zgoraj naštetih krovnih pogodb ima trenutno fakulteta podpisanih tudi 45 bilateralnih pogodb v sklopu Erasmus programa, ki omogočajo vzajemno izmenjavo študentov in učiteljskega osebja.
