Originally established as the Research and Publishing Centre in 1990 and renamed in 2002, Sophia Publishing House has published more than 170 titles in the field of social sciences theory. Published texts include original contributions by Slovene authors, such as Maja Breznik, Denis Poniž, Veljko Rus, Ksenija Vidmar Horvat, Žiga Vodovnik; and Slovenian translations of international authors such as The Media and Democracy by J. Kean, Age of Extremes by E. J. Hobsbawm, Gender and Nation by Nira Yuval-Davis, Philosophy: The Classics by Nigel Warburton, and The Long Twentieth Century: Money, Power, and the Origins of Our Times by Giovanni Arrighi.

Occasionally, the Sophia Publishing House also organises roundtables and readings of authors from its catalogue, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, University of Ljubljana, Scientific Research Centre (ZRC SAZU), Slovene Academy of Science and Arts and the Slovenian Book Agency.
