Evgen Čopi Gorišek: Paradise Lost and Found in China

17. 01. - 16. 02. 2023

Hong Kong, China

On January 17th 20223, Woaw Gallery Central will be presenting a Hong Kong solo debut by Evgen Čopi Gorišek, Paradise Lost and Found. For this presentation, Slovenian-born and Berlin-based artist teamed with his close friend and curator Saša Bogojev to create an immersive experience at the gallery’s space in HK Central, presenting a new body of paintings, works on paper, and a large-scale sculpture.

When in the late 15th century Hieronymus Bosch started conceptualizing his magnum opuhe Garden of Earthly Delights, he was determined to portray the Catholic church’s idea of sin and its consequences. Driven by strong religious beliefs, he felt the urge to warn about the effect of worldly fleshy indulgence on the eternal afterlife. But what the Early Netherlandish master might’ve seen as a “fall from grace”, the 21st-century everyman sees as part of the human condition. And so, some 500 years later, Evgen Čopi Gorišek took the essential elements of the epochal triptych to portray his vision of contemporary life and his own place in it.
