International literary festival from where I call, Podgorica 2022: Gabriela Babnik

This year’s festival will be held under the title Eros in Migration, for which the organiser has also drawn inspiration from the works of Slovenian authors. In this context, a programme of activities is planned to promote the work of Gabriela Babnik, with a focus on her new novel Three Deaths.

Gabriela Babnik is a Slovenian writer, literary critic and translator. She has published five novels, and her journalistic, literary and film reviews are regularly published in national newspapers and magazines in Slovenia. Babnik was born in Germany in 1979. She studied comparative literature at the University of Ljubljana, and then travelled to Africa, to Burkina Faso, which became the inspiration for her work. She has a master’s degree in Contemporary Nigerian Novels, and has translated the novel Half of the Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichia into Slovenian. Her first novel, “Leather from Bombay”, won the award for best first book at the Slovenian Book Fair in 2007. In 2009, her second novel, “In the Tall Grass”, was published, which was shortlisted for the “Kresnik” award in 2010. Her third novel, “Drought Age”, won the European Union Prize for Literature (Slovenia) in 2013. Her fourth novel,”Intimate” (Intimate, 2015) was re-shortlisted for the “Kresnik” award for best novel of the year. Babnik also published a collection of short stories, while her novel “Three Deaths” was published in May 2019.
