Ljubljana. Occupied Europe Tour 1983

9. 12. - 20. 01. 2023

Vienna, Austria

The photographic material from the legendary “Occupied Europe Tour”, which is essential for understanding the Slovenian avant-garde music group Laibach, was thought to have been lost for decades. As an employee of Laibach Kunst, Teodor Lorenčič was part of this strategically fateful tour, which he followed closely with his camera. A year before Laibach’s 40th anniversary, he unexpectedly found the films that form the basis for the book and now the exhibition.

In April 1983, Laibach and the English band Last Few Days performed as part of the Zagreb Biennale in a concert entitled We Forge the Future. This performance was interrupted by the police. The whole thing ended with the ban of Laibach’s name and public appearances in Yugoslavia. Under these circumstances, Laibach decided to tour with Last Few Days under the name Occupied Europe Tour, which marks a historic turning point and a cornerstone of the 40 “years of eternity”, the steadfastness and everlasting willingness of its members, in the spirit of act collectivism and anonymity.
