The Word Vagabond Ludwig Hartinger

2. 12. - 2. 12. 2022

Salzburg, Austria

The Austrian author, editor and translator Ludwig Hartinger is a well-known personality in the literary scene: as a “word tramp” he commutes between German, French and Slovenian, publishes poems and essays, moderates and is committed to conveying texts by contemporary writers from Central Europe and the Poet Srečko Kosovel (1904-1926).

In September, Ludwig Hartinger received the Slovenian translator’s prize Lavrin-Diplom 2022 for “outstanding, sensitive translations that testify to in-depth knowledge of the source and target language as well as culture, for competent and precise translation work as well as the constant effort to have Slovenian literature and culture recognized in the German-speaking world Raum” (from the eulogy by Tanja Petrič).

On the occasion of Ludwig Hartinger’s 70th birthday, the Salzburg Literature House and the Slovenian cultural information center SKICA are organizing an evening in his honor – with author friends such as Karl-Markus Gauß, Drago Jančar, Elke Laznia, Karin Peschka and Ilma Rakusa; they speak or read poetry and prose.

Music: Nana Milčinski (vocals) and Joži Šalej (piano, vocals).

In cooperation: Literaturhaus Salzburg.
