Each year since [[established::1980]] the [[Slovene Music Artists Association]] bestows the annual [[Betetto Award]] for the best original music achievements. It can be awarded to a composer, a jazz musician or a brass band. Among the recent recipients are [[Marina Horak]] and [[Trutamora Slovenica]] in 2008, [[Jernej Brence]] and [[Cveto Kobal]] in 2009, and [[Ondina Otta Klasinc]] in 2011.

The [[Betetto Award]] is named after a composer, opera singer, and a musical pedagogue [[Julij Betetto]] (1885&ndash;1963). His musical career was established through the collaboration of the Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) and the [[Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana]] where he worked as the head of the opera house. In 1961 Betetto received a [[Prešeren Award and Prešeren Foundation Awards|Prešeren Award]] for his life's work.
