The Puppetry Foundation (ULU) was established in May 2001 by puppetry artists. It is a network of 17 members comprising puppetry ensembles, puppet theatres, puppetry groups and individual puppeteers. ULU stimulates the development of puppetry in Slovenia through presentations and educational activities, and fosters international co-operation. It launched the Slovene Puppetry Biennial in 2001.

In recent years ULU has produced several plays by its members, including ''Kroki'' and ''Friends'' by [[Silvan Omerzu]] ([[Konj Puppet Theatre]]), some performances by [[Katja Povše]] ([[Miss Bazilika Narrative Theatre]]), ''Martin Krpan'' by [[Uš Puppet Theatre Company]] and ''Little White Cat'' by [[Labirint Theatre]].
