First presented in [[established::2007]], the [[Pia and Pino Mlakar Award]] is conferred by the expert committee of the [[Association of Ballet Artists of Slovenia]] for an individual's outstanding and original life time contribution to the art of ballet and choreography. The award is named after the late Slovene ballet dancers and choreographers [[Pia Mlakar|Pia]] (1910&ndash;2000) and [[Pino Mlakar]] (1907&ndash;2006), the founders of professional ballet education in Slovenia.

So far the award has been bestowed to [[Mirko Šparemblek]] (2007) and [[Vlasto Dedovič]] (2010), two of the most visible Slovene ballet choreographers.
